Am I charged for canceling a notary appointment?
You can cancel or reschedule an appointment any time directly with your assigned notary, through your Calendly booking, emails to orders@notarypin.com, or by phone at (858) 800-3298, but may be charged a cancellation fee depending on when you booked the appointment, and the amount of time between your cancellation request and scheduled appointment time.
Cancellation fees pay notaries & witnesses for their time, loss of availability to take other signing appointments, printing costs (if applicable), and effort they spend getting to the signing location.
Mobile notary appointments should only be made when all signers are ready and willing to sign. This helps ensure smooth successful signings for you and the notary.
RESCHEDULING MOBILE NOTARY APPOINTMENTS
If the notary has the availability and has not started their drive to your signing location, we may be able to accommodate rescheduling without any cancellation fees.
CANCELLING MOBILE NOTARY APPOINTMENTS
You may be charged a cancellation fee if:
You cancel with less than 2 hours until the scheduled appointment time, if booked more than 2 hr 30 mins ahead. The grace period during which no cancellation fee will apply depends on the time of booking.
You cancel after 30 minutes of booking, if booked with less than 2 hr 30 mins until scheduled appointment time.
The notary appears before the signer and refuses to notarize because they cannot be certain of the signers’ identities, willingness to sign, or awareness of the contents and effect of the documents.
Due to the nature of notarial acts and the possibility of fraudulent coercion or influence, a cancellation fee is charged even if a notary refuses to notarize a document for the reasons listed above in line 3. This ensures the notary has the assurance they will be compensated for their time, effort, and expenses to perform notarizations with integrity and without monetary influence.
WAIVED CANCELLATION FEES
A cancellation fee may be waived if:
Your assigned notary is unusually delayed.
Your assigned notary cancels the appointment prior to meeting you in person.
If you believe you were charged a cancellation fee in error, let us know by contacting Orders@notarypin.com.

Responsibilities of A Notary Public
The Notary is an official of integrity appointed by the State of California to serve the public as an impartial witness. A Notary is not an attorney and cannot explain the contents of any documents that are being signed. A Notary's duty is to screen the signers for their true identity, their willingness to sign without duress or intimidation, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction.
-
Notary's Right of Refusal
The Notary may refuse to notarize a document if they cannot be certain of the signer’s identity, willingness to sign, or understanding of contents of the document being signed. A cancellation fee is applied to cover the cost of the notary’s time and travel. The cancellation fee must remain in affect to allow the notary to perform their duties without monetary influence.
